About us

Strongim Bisnis is the Australian Government’s most significant private sector development program in Solomon Islands. It is the primary means by which Australia builds strategic partnerships for economic growth with businesses in Solomon Islands- partnering directly with Solomon Islands’ businesses, liaising with civil society organisations and Government initiatives.

Our purpose is to support a stronger, more diversified, and socially inclusive economy underpinned by a robust private sector.

‍Australia supports Solomon partner businesses through Strongim Bisnis to increase sales and profits providing households in target sectors with access to more jobs, improved incomes and economic empowerment for women, youth, and people living with disabilities.

A stronger and more inclusive economy means a stronger and more stable nation.

Our approach

We look at sectors with high growth potential and local demand to create new jobs and income opportunities.

We develop partnerships with private and public sector organisations that are strategically placed in these sectors to fill market gaps, invest in local businesses, or bring innovative changes to the ways the industries operate so change is sustainable. Strongim Bisnis co-invests with expert partners to introduce new business practices and improve key functions like financial management and marketing.

This helps support businesses to become more sustainable and inclusive in their employment practices, procurement, and social engagement to benefit more people, including marginalized groups (women, youth, and people living with disabilities) while increasing climate change resilience and indigenous engagement initiatives.

By supporting these shifts that are already taking place in Solomon Islands, Australia is helping the private sector to harness the potential of all Solomon Islanders.

Our impact

Strongim Bisnis concluded 2023 with a portfolio of 45 strategic private and public sector partnerships. Through its strategic investments, 593 households benefited from increased incomes of SBD 5.0 million, 188 new full-time jobs were created, and SBD 6.8 million in new private sector investments was leveraged. In the same period, partner processing and sales of value-added products expanded by SBD 6.9 million, with SBD 5.5 million exported to international markets.

How it works

Strongim Bisnis partners with businesses, government ministries/departments, civil society organisations or associations that have the capacity and incentive to grow and effect positive change by addressing the root constraints within the sector

We work across seven key sectors: cocoa, coconut, tourism, financial services, timber, horticulture, and waste management. Our approach includes a strong focus on Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) to economically empower women, youth, and people with disabilities.

Strategies for each sector we work in and the partnerships and activities that result from these are informed by our continuous assessment of these markets and gender analysis.
